1) Confirm your  production brief . You write this yourself but it's absolutely crucial this is clear, appropriate and achievable. You should have done this already -  the original blog post was here  - but it may have changed as a result of your preliminary exercise. I have changed my idea production brief from video to print;this has allowed me to emulate my ideas and made them much more ideal to my essay than doing a video production.  2)  Research : detailed notes on  at least THREE  texts similar to what you are creating. What are the key conventions? What can you learn/borrow from the examples you have looked at?     3)  Project schedule : when will you shoot and edit this production? Make this a week-by-week schedule leading up to Easter.  Key dates:  we break up for Easter on Friday 31 March and the final deadline is Wednesday 18 April. 4)  Script  - see the  BBC Writers' Room  for advice/script formatting. If you're making a music video, you'll wan

Writing your own Linked Production brief

Writing your own Linked Production brief Complete the following and post it to your blog in a new blog post called 'Linked Production brief'. Your Critical Investigation topic:  To what extent do the hyper-masculine representations in films such as ‘Pain & Gain’ have a negative effect on male audiences?  Your Linked Production brief: overall my plan for a linked production is to do it based on the documentary based on body building and what lies beneath the "aesthetics"; how intense training can actually be when an athlete turns professional and what it actually takes to maintain this lifestyle; it takes blood, sweat and tears to stay on the top and acquire the best physique in the world.   Length/size of production (e.g. 3 minutes, 5 pages etc.): My goal for the production is for it to last around 2 to 2 and half minutes to ensure that i can show all the representaion mentioned within my essay and apply them within the conventions of the documentary  Give

Introduction – need a lot more clarity here. Put your essay question above the intro and make sure you are answering the question and setting out an argument. What do you plan to investigate in terms of masculinity in Hollywood films? I would focus on the effect these representations have on a male audience. 250 words. Section 1 – historical texts / historical context. Good start – that works with the question, it will provide context for the debate. You can use material from the docudrama but I’d also use a Hollywood action film too (otherwise it’ll be too different to Pain and Gain). One of Arnie’s films from the 80s? Get plenty of textual analysis in here too. 450 words. Section 2 – Primary text: Pain and Gain. Textual analysis. Media key concepts etc. Quotes/reviews etc. That quote looks great but you’ll need to properly contextualise it. I would focus here on how much things have changed (if at all) in Hollywood films over the last 40 years. 500 words. Section 3 – Research

Media Research plan:

Introduction: “contemporary Hollywood Masculinities”- imagine if you will the many different types of men who have populated this study.   Susanne Kord depictions of contemporary Hollywood masculinities suggest that even the viewer’s find it to be a struggle; therefore means that it’s also a struggle for the We see that in modern day society, men are still considered the breadwinners – this is due to the hegemony men hold over women in the world. textual analysis

(Textual analysis of pain and gain) Evidently in this it really does give of the ambience of masculism from the props on set to the interaction with the store owner; from this clip it does ultimately suggest that rock is the more dominate individual. For example from this wide angle shot the ideology of the hand shake suggest that rock is pulling the weaker shop owner around to show his dominance in the room. Furthermore the three “henchmen” used their male representation to gain access to the guns but also subvert the attention away to the real reason why they need the guns in the first reasons is to kidnap Kershaw. In summery from the clip its evident the man in the red t-shirt is weaker and for him to show his “alpha male” he got “Anthony Mackie” too shot him with the Tasers.   Therefore this is a screening of masochism and from “fight club takes a beating: Masculinity, Masochism and the politics of disavowal” and the f

Research plan (media texts, academic texts and websites)

Media texts What your main focus will be, E.g.: Firstly, my main focus is going to be on Pain and Gain which is a highly masculinised film and this is because of the fact that Text features well know actors that have a impact on young audience this such as Dwayne Jonson in particular.   Other media texts 1.    Steroids under the skin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2wyEJMp9HE 2.    Pumping Iron: pre 21 st century featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger. 3.    Perfect Physique: it states on IMDB “To acquire the best physiques in the world takes relentless desire, fierce drive and unwavering discipline. The struggle is real.” 4.    Fast and Furious series which features a saturated level of Masculine and has urged in my opinion the growth of masculinity because of the attraction audience Fast cars, women and action. Fast and Furious is filled with enigma and action codes that have lead them to making more and more. 5.     Daddy’s home- IMDB states “Brad Whitaker is a radio ho
